A Weekend of Pastries (17th-18th Oct)

This is a momentous occasion my friends. One that calls for celebration. My posts are actually up to date. I have completed blogging about everything (well less the 7 backdated posts about Spain) up till this point. And this post created on the 19/10 is about my trips in the past two days. This post is hot off the press my friends.

On Friday, we traveled out to Germany for the first time since Spain. And where else to go but to France. Strasbourg is a border town between Germany and France, something like 5 mins from the German border. Nonetheless, this was my first time in France.

Strasbourg has some surprisingly nice architecture, something we were definitely not expecting to see.

Rather, the main aim of going into Strasbourg was to visit some French pâtisseries and get our filthy hands on some Eclairs. For some weird reason, I had this severe craving for a Chocolate Eclair (having already sated the ones for Fish and Duck) and I had ranted on and on about how I was going to eat all the Eclairs in Strasbourg.

We basically spent the day exploring the city...

... and lusting for chocolates and pastries and cakes and etc etc...

... and at the end of the day, the craving for Eclairs was satisfied. And the mission to consume EVERY single Chocolate Eclair in Strasbourg was complete. There was literally no more Chocolate Eclairs left in Strasbourg after we departed.

Today, (technically yesterday because its past 12 midnight) we headed out to Rothenburg, apparently one of the best preserved medieval towns in Germany. The old city center even had its city walls still intact!

But more exciting is the specialty of Rothenburg, Schneeballen! Literally Snow Ball! It was basically a huge ball shaped biscuit covered in various types of Chocolate.

Look at Jiahui so SHOCKED to see the numerous flavours to choose from...

... followed by the look of absolute indecision of which one to choose. She was actually making whining noises at this point because she couldn't decide which one to get.

We finally picked our Flavours. (Mine)

(Jiahui's)

Alas, too bad the Schneeballen actually didn't taste very good. If you're wondering what is up with the pose. Its my "瘦瘦脸" pose. I do it whenever I'm going to eat something fattening.

We continued exploring the town. The town was old but beautiful. Having both the charm of an old German town as well as the rustic feeling of a medieval town. It was as if Heidelberg and Toledo had a baby and it became Rothenburg. (This would make more sense if I had actually blogged about Spain).

We even climbed up to the tower of the Rathaus to be conned by the locals. After climbing an insane 217 steps, we reached the top where a man collected a fee for going to the top of the tower. 2EU. Having climbed almost all the way to the top before they asked for the money, we decided to pay to complete the climb so we could get a good view of the city. Conman MAX.

At least the view was not bad. Sigh.

I was pretty tired at the end of the day. Traveling 4 hours to get to some place just to hang out there for about 4 hours before having to travel another 4 hours home is not exactly very fun. All in all, it was still a pretty nice weekend.
