World Cup Fever

Thursday, June 29, 2006
32 teams! 64 matches! The best against the best and only one team will emerge victorious. It is the 2006 Fifa World Cup! Host nation Germany.

Never have I watched that much soccer in my life. I've never really watched alot of soccer in the past but I think I'm beginning to appreciate as well as enjoy watching soccer now. In a matter of 2 weeks, I've managed to double the total amount of minutes watched in my life and this is not an exaggeration. And of course adding on to the cheer and excitement is.. soccer BETTING!!!

But of course we should all bet within our limits and place our bets with the ONLY legal bookie in Singapore.. Singapore Pools!

Frankly I'm quite turned off by all the under-handed tactics Singapore Pools is using to stomp out illegal soccer betting. First the introduction of the Pre-paid soccer betting card where you can CALL to actually place your bets. This of course is to combat the convenience betting with the bookies have as well as to help you control your betting. You see first you buy a prepaid card of varying values $250/500/1000 this way you can set a limit on your betting. After which if you so choose to, you can top up an unlimited times of $100!!!! So much for control *mock*. And the convenience? Pure genius if you ask me because surely this what betting is all about. The convenience. Not the money. The convenience.

Simply put, I'm not going to start placing bets with Pools instead of Bookies now that I can call up Pools too. Duh, the simple reason why Bookie betting is more attractive is simply because of the odds. The payout. If Singapore Pools offer better odds than Bookies, hell, I'll be happy to queue. Frankly after observing the odds Pools offer, I think they are more money hungry than the bookies. They give ridiculous handicaps where you'd have to be insane to give it or you get horrible odds if you take it. At least the bookies give me a fighting chance in terms of handicaps. In similar handicaps, payout is higher. If Pools really want to stomp out illegal betting, I think it would be better if they offered better odds. Odds so damn good that the bookies themselves decide to bet with Pools. Prepaid cards my arse.

Its okay if they got the formula wrong but my God, what under-handed tactics Pools are using. I'm talking about Newpaper propaganda. If you people have read the articles that "encouraged" people to bet with Pools you'll know what I mean. It is so freaking obvious what they are trying to do. They print shit about this guy who lost money because he bet with bookies. Stuff like "... then they let me extend my credit but it was all actually a ploy to get me deeper into debt that I cannot pay! Because the ultimate bookie goal is to make sure I lose money! That is always the first thing they think about! They offer me better odds so that I will lose money! In the end of the World Cup I was badly burnt and I lost thousands of dollars! BooHOoooO!" 5 pages of anti-bookie text was on the Newpaper that day. Not a single line suggested that maybe these dumb fuck losers lost money because they didn't know when to stop. All the blame pushed to the bookies.. like they're the freaking devil incarnate and are tricking people to sin. Let's just say I'm disgusted with the bullshit they try to pass on to us. I'm doubly disgusted that the press prints stuff that are so one-sided. Pools try to make the previous gamblers who lost money to bookies feel victimized and pretends that their own personal stupidity didn't contribute to their loss so that they can lose money to Pools this time round.

Of course the greatest edge the Pools have over the Bookies.. is that they can catch you and lock you up if you don't bet with them. Yar... so.. you know. It's quite and unfair advantage but hey, they're the home team.

Despite my great despise over Singapore Pools, I still bet with them because... the bookies don't take $5 bets. >.<

Bet safe and hope you guys hit the jackpot.

May she find peace at last...

The Nun

There comes a time.. when a movie will be filmed.. and that movie... will be so Amazingly good.. that it will set a new benchmark for all movies of its genre. And that movie is here... NOW. This summer, bear witness to the next milestone in silver screen history. Based on an original story.. The Nun.

After attending to my lastest addiction, Boardgaming at Settler's Cafe, the 4 of us Glennie Boi, Guoqiang, Zi and me decided that we should watch a scary movie. And there could be no other other than The Omen. The plot of that movie revolves around the anti-Christ being born on the 6th of June 2006 or 6/6/06 and started playing in cinemas near you yesterday which just so happened to be 6/6/06! Talk about sheer coincidence! *Sarcasm*

Ah but alas too many people wanted to watch that same movie and it was sold out. Boohoo T_T

We were hungry for some horror action however and that hunger had to be satiated and so the decision was made by Guoqiang. I believe his exact words were "Aiyah. The NUN!" And so we joined the legions of other horror movie go-ers who had to watch The Nun instead of The Omen. In fact The Nun was a full house.

I swear I have never laughed so hard at a horror flick before. Sometimes I enjoy watching horror flicks with Guoqiang because... well he is generally quite disruptive and he makes retarded comments about the show that is usually very anti-climatic and ends up making me laugh while the people around us are all very scared. I'm glad he is my friend because if he was a stranger at a cinema doing the stuff he does, I would beat his face in. So this time I was expecting yet another lame experience since GQ was there but the movie did GQ's job for him.

The Nun got every single formula for a scary movie wrong. Shitty dialogue like "So what is this some kinda I know what you did 18 summers ago?" In certain parts of the movie, members of the cast suddenly becomes paranormal experts and give insights regarding the origins and dealings with ghosts that every member in the group take for a fact at face value. Coincidentally, the cast carries 2 harpoons in their car. The toilet Spits water at the people who are about to die (Everyone in the theatre laughed at this point.) The ghost looked like Hans Solo in Carbonite. I dunno everything about it was wrong wrong wrong. You guys should go watch it!

Clearly I am a person who blogs very regularly. Hurhur..

I was going to recommend this really good movie to everyone but apparently I was abit too slow about it and they've stopped screening it so yea.. It's "Kinky Boots" for any of you who would still like to catch it. I think the film is British or at least the actors are. As I was saying "Kinky Boots" was a surprisingly good film and especially so because I was expecting to watch a lousy show. Now if the question is why I went to watch this show if I thought it would be lousy then the answer would be, because a terribly good friend of mine asked me out for a movie and since she did, it wouldn't matter if the movie sucked because I would be hanging out with her. Plus the tickets were free.

But I mean seriously, a film with the title of "Kinky BOOTS." I don't think many would give it a second glance but trust me.. it's surprisingly funny and the plot was quite engaging! Basically it's about this guy who tries to save his Granddad's shoe company by making leather boots for drag queens and is apparently based on a true story. Now the best thing about all this is that since it's not playing anymore, no one can watch it and tell me that I was wrong. Hah!

But seriously, maybe you can buy the VCD or download it. It is certainly worth watching. Unlike of course the next film that I plan to talk about...

... The DaVinci Code. Not very enjoyable I must say. The book is better. Actually, that seemed to be the general concensus, that the people who have read the book wouldn't like the film as much and it seems to apply to me as well. But at the end of the day, I still watched it even though I expected that I wouldn't like it because some movies you just have to watch even if you know it's going to suck. Movies like...

... X3. Hurhur.. Yes I have been watching alot of movies recently.

[Spoiler ALERT]

Now X3 is just plain lame but I watch it for the special effects. There were several things in the movie that just made huge question marks in my head. First of all people with telekinetic and psychic abilities are generally quite rare in the Marvel universe or so I last remembered but in the scene inside the Academy, there were like so many random nameless students just floating and flying objects with their mutant powers. Off.

Second! After the cure was released, why was it that the people who were queueing up for the cure all mutants who looked very much human? Shouldn't it be more dominated by Mutants who are really so damn Fugly as a result of their mutant genes that they want to get the cure so they can live normal lives again? Where are the Toads and the Beasts and deformed mutants? No. The people who want the cure are the ones that blend into the Homo Sapien society and the people who do NOT want the cure are the ones are so damn ugly they have to live in a cave. Right.

Third. During the final fight scene, all the Mutants from the brotherhood of Mutants all resorted to melee combat against Wolverine. Huh? Some Mutants. Where are the Mutant powers?!??!

Fourth. Pheonix can disintegrate buildings but only surface skin flies off Wolverine. Right.

[Spoilers End]

Oh well at least Cyclops died. I've always hated that lamer.
