五年天

Saturday, January 28, 2006
Come 31st January, it will be my 5th anniversary with Zi. 5 years is a pretty long time. That's almost a quarter of all my life. Almost. And 45 years from now, maybe I can tell you that I've been with her nearly all my life. But that's getting ahead of myself. Right now all I can say is that I've found happiness (At least I think I have) and hopefully it doesn't run away from me. =)

**Mushiness Alert**

Ger, I just want to thank you for all that you've done for me, for being there for me all the time and all the little things that you do. I love you.. For as long as love will last and may love last an eternity.

**End Mushiness**

Now to all my friends who are eyeing someone or hoping to meet someone, best of luck! I'm sure that significant other probably likes you as well, just take it slow though. You see the thing is I'm friggin` cool and sexy and so if you're my friend, then by association, you're at least almost as cool and sexy as me and that in turn means that you're probably a highly sought after mark in the dating game. Huzzah! And if you're hoping to meet someone, take your time, you've got a whole lot options and remember! You're almost as cool and sexy as me. Repeat that to yourself, "I'm almost as cool as sexy as Vincent." Say it 3 times every morning and 3 times every night.

How did we wind up together? Well, with Jiazi, it was love at first sight and I knew at once Yea right. And I shit 5 carat diamonds too. She hated me when we met. (I never let her forget it) Why the hate? Well I think back then I kinda liked someone she hated hence by association (see above) I must be a spas too. Thing was I've always liked her as a person, cheerful and bubbly and everything. So in Sec 4, our form teacher decided that, maybe, just maybe, Zi was abit TOO cheerful and bubbly with her friends so she ought to sit at the back with all the guys in order to reduce her.. effervescence. At that time I was thinking, "Well that's nice. Zi's a nice girl and she seems quite traumatized, I'll be nice and talk to her. Get to know her better. Help her along this rough period in her life(Forceful relocation was a huge thing back in the 1990s. Very ugly at that time) Well well well, who'd have though that she was thinking, "Oh my God. I'm stuck back here with losers like VINCENT and WEELENG!" Okay maybe not Weeleng. Just me. Weeleng hated you back then though.

We became good friends during the O'lvl preparations. Just one day, we were up on IRC and it was like "God I'm so bored! You too? Let's go out for a movie. Screw studying." We watched "Gossip." After that we talked on the phone alot, Irc-ed abit, ICQ-ed too. We became truly good friends. Those platonic kinds. I was confused back then, I didn't think I liked her. But eventually one day, at one moment when we were alone together, realization struck and we kind of had our first kiss. And to me, I was like "Woah. What the hell is going on? Friends don't do that!" In retrospect I guess it was quite obvious that we were falling for each other and I think people around us knew. I think I was one of the last few people to find out about us though. When we went steady (Yes I choose to use such tacky language because I think its funny) it was the end of Secondary School and Zi was starting on her 1st 3 months in SRJC.

What the future holds for us? I have no idea. But hopefully, just hopefully, the search is over and all that remains is circumstances to permit us to tie the knot. I.e Career Finance Shotgun. Kidding about the last one. My mizuage is still up for grabs.

To all my friends, I hope that you find happiness in whatever way you perceive happiness to be. And if you find someone you want to hold on to, remember, it's as much about finding the right person as putting in a hell alot of effort to make things work. Life isn't like a fairy tale and God knows that we put in alot of effort. Some days more than others. Otherwise, a Happy Chinese New Year to all my friends and to my Gerger, Happy 五年天!

Nokia: Connecting People

Monday, January 23, 2006
Nokia could keep their slogan should they ever choose to start making condoms. It works well. "Connecting People."

Anyways I've set my eyes on this new phone but problem is, it's from Nokia. See the thing is I've decided not to buy Nokia phones anymore. Why? The phones they produce generally fall behind in terms of technology as compared to phones offered by other brands. Their display screens' resolution often do not match up with phones made by rival brands. Their camera's pixel count also lag behind in comparison to other camera phones within the same price range. However, after spending some time with Samsung and Mitsubishi (Yes, Mitsubishi. They make phones too.) I'm slowly crawling back to Nokia. Why? While Nokia lacks the technological fluff of other brands, it makes up for it in terms of durability, assessibility and convenience.

Tiny things that I took for granted for in my old Nokia phones became glaring shortcomings of other phones. For example, my Mitsubishi phone's alarm doesn't go off while its on silent while Nokia's alarm goes off even when its switched OFF. Also I do not particularly enjoy having to go down to Alexander Rd to repair my Mitsubishi. So in the end, maybe a Nokia isn't that bad after all. I mean which other phone of any other brand can survive a fall into a Tank's Bridge Launching Gear Unit. Check it out. Isn't it sexy. Obviously I'm looking at the "Coffee Brown" theme. I'm not gay.

Behold, the Nokia: 7370

Normally, I hate shopping. It's a waste of time, it's tiring and it is often, especially with girls, utterly and mind-numbingly pointless. However, yesterday (Technically the day before. Let me make it simple for you. FRIDAY.) was an exception. I actually had plenty of fun.

Vital Stats:
Location> Orchard (Taka, Wisma, Tangs and Heerens)
Coterie> Hot Babe Lay; Adorable Zi; Me (Duh`)
Harvest> 4 tops 3 bottom 1 pair of shoes and 1 pencil case
Nett Expenditure> $400~
Time taken> 5 hours
Guy to Girl Shopping Duration Ratio> 15mins : Eternity

Me > So I bought this really sexy pair of shoes because I needed something to wear for Mich's wedding which is in a few hours time. My faithful K9 footwear Hush Pupps died during my SMU convocation. Might as well, I need a pair of formal shoes anyways. Just in case I have presentations that require them. Woot, got a pencil case for school at long last. 4 weeks into term 2. I am highly efficient and motivated. Huzzah!

So anyway, after dinner at Tang we went into this shop in Heerens. "木" So this shop carries like a whole inventory of really interesting and different clothing, and in my opinion, they looked very very stylo. If there's one place you could purchase style, this would be it.

We spent the whole night in that one shop and the girls were trying one outfit after outfit and while this would normally bore the hell out of me, this time it was different. For 2-3 hours the gal went through through transformation after transformation and everytime they pulled open the changing room (curtains?), they emerged looking really really hawt. The thing is most of the items in the shop are a far cry from what you'd normally be able to get in normal shops, and tastefully so at that. You'd really have to see it for yourself to get what I'm saying. But trust me, they looked good. And I'm not talking, well they look like they have a decent dress sense good, I'm talking, wow, these people KNOW how to dress up good.

In the end I guess I got caught up in the moment and for the night, I became their gay fashion advisor and actually had fun shopping with them. $300 we spent in that one shop but the way I see it, money well spent. At the end of the night, the Dynamic Deadweight Duo: LayZee were now $300 more stylish and fashionable. Catch the new and improved LayZee at a CNY near you.

Anyways, watched "Memoirs of a Geisha." I wouldn't say that this is a movie you have to catch but its pretty good. The cast features, notably, Ziyi Zhang, Michelle Yeoh and Gong Li as well as a few guys who aren't Geishas. Michelle Yeoh's performance, I feel, was my favourite, if largely because she had the best mastery of the spoken English. The plot was okay I guess. It was pretty linear without any major twists and from what I overheard, quite abit of content present in the orginal novel was left out in the movie. (Though that's normally the case with Book-Movie-Tie-Ins) I guess there's only so much you can put into 140mins. Most of the time, it felt like a rather slow and mundane film but then again maybe I just don't appreciate it the level in which I'm supposed to. For the most part, the scenes don't carry with them the substance to make me engaged, to feel for them, to empathise. When they schemed, I was not intrigued. When they cried, I did not feel sad. There is one notably terrible scene though. If you watch it, you'll know exactly which one I'm talking about. It sticks out like a sore thumb. What was particularly good was the soundtrack. I'd recommend buying the OST even if you didn't watch the movie. The set felt very authentic too, very early 1900 Japan. On the whole, a good enough film that you can safely watch. But don't expect it to make you want to stand up and clap.

My Ratings: 7/10

Fell into Hell

Tuesday, January 17, 2006
Hanged around in school to mug today. Was EXTREMELY irritated by the two Indians in MA class who kept "participating." They kept making stupid comments without thinking it through properly until at one point I could no longer take it, I decided to unleash sarcasm on them.

Indian 1: Oh but what if after the end of the year the company realises that say for example they priced it at $10 and their costs were supposed to be $5 but costs turn out to be like maybe $6. Then what? (Insert MA mumbo jumbo)

Me: (Very loudly) No what you do is you knock on the door of the 10 customers you sold the product to and ask them to give you another dollar cuz costs turned out to be higher than you expected. Duh. If thats really the case then you lose $1 profit per unit sold la! Crap.

Indian stares at me.

To avoid accusations of racism, I will now screw a chinese fella. This guy was insisting that a soft drink producer would be able to produce, at a better cost for a large supermarket than for a convenience store. Why? Simply because the supermarket will order larger amounts of soft drinks as opposed to a convenience store who will order a small amount, so for the former, you naturally reap economies of scale. My question to him is, "Oh so XXX, you mean to tell me that ABC company has a SEPARATE factory for each and EVERY one of his clients and not a single factory that produces drinks and then selling them to different vendors? Oh well, why then if ABC has like 100 clients then it has 100 factories???"

The morons in University are amazing.

Back to the main topic at hand, I took a hard fell today. Not because I was moronic, but because it was raining and the floor was very wet and I was late and I was running. Ironic because Aries, (whom I had lunch with today) told be as I was leaving school to "Becareful, its about to rain." To which I retorted, " Dun worry, Zi's driving. Haha, I'll be safe."

Location: Busstop behind Biz Block opposite Chjimes

I saw Zi's car. Started running after her because, well a bus was behind her and I know how she panics when that happens. Don't want to be late. Slipped of the ledge and fell to the floor just 5m away from Zi's car. So much for safe. Oh the PAIN~! I'm still hurting how. After I fell, I laid there in the puddle of water with rain pouring down all over me. I couldn't get up because I was in so much pain. I landed on my left palm, right elbow and my hip/ass. I distinctly saw this girl in the busstop staring at me in disbelief, not knowing whether or not to help me up. Well the answer is yes, you ought to have help me up you bitch. An Indian was staring at me too but who needs his help. After a bit I got up and stumbled to Zi's car and fell back onto the seat. I forgot to close the door behind me.

Oh my God the pain.

I closed my eyes for abit, and behind me Lay was talking Zi was talking beside me. So much noise. I think I was about to go into shock so I tried to open my eyes. When it opened all I saw was white. I waved my hands in front of me, trying to see where it was. I blinked. Once, twice and then again. I tried to speak but words wouldn't form. There was only pain. Then I started to giggle and smile just like I always do when something happens. I laughed uncontrollably when my Warrant Officer smashed my thumb with a sledgehammer in the army. I only managed to smile so can you imagine how much pain I was in? After awhile my vision cleared and that was that.

Sounds like fun yea? Good thing was there didn't seem to be any permanant damage. No sprains, no broken bone, though I'll bet I'll see some funky bruises tomorrow morning. Considering I fell backward, I think I'm pretty lucky not to have hit my head against the ledge or worse yet, my neck against the ledge. I think that would have been a lot worse than what happened today. Here's an illustration of what happened in case you can't picture it:

Maple Cookie Heaven

Monday, January 16, 2006
Nara's back from Canada and with her, she brought cookies. Of which I have received absolutely none, I am terribly furious and I, of course, will never forgive Nara for it. NEVER. While Nara has denied me the opportunity of consuming these fantabulistic cookies, I however, was able to acquire one off the charity of Zee. The cookies are amazing la! Every bite is like a bite of heaven. It fills you with bliss and the maple filling just MELTS in your mouth making you feel all warm inside. I hate that I'm only gonna have one in my entire life because their from Canada.

Update on my BGS group, (Yes I love to bitch so much I'm almost like a girl) So I told the Prof about my two non-attending teammates and apparently, they are away in the US and dropped out of SMU. Whee~! So I said, well hey, I don't want to break up another group just so I can have enough people so sure, I'll do with 3 people. I'm perfectly fine with that. (Normal group size is 5 btw) I thought that was that, but hey what do you know, Prof decides that 3 people in one group would be too taxing for us and it would probably screw us over. So we were broken up and assigned into 3 different groups. HOWEVER, we still had to do our minor project together so suddenly I'm in TWO different groups for my BGS which now produces an entirely new problem. Major group members are meeting to do their Minor Project which I am not a part of, and after which they intend to discuss their Major Project which I AM a part of. So do I go to the meeting? Or don't I? Apparently the best option is to hang around somewhere near them while they do their minor and when they intend to do the major, they give me a call. Whee! Meanwhile I still have to meet up with ANOTHER group of people to complete the MINOR project. A whoop dee dup dup! What a logistical nightmare, and of course the other two dudes are probably going through the same thing as well. Pity though, I would have loved to work with Alex. He seemed like a pretty nice guy. Oh well.

Seems like it's going to be a rough Sem. Taking a short break from my MA mugging right now. "Omg! Week3 and you are mugging?" You might say. Well I have to keep up, I'm not exactly the sponge of knowledge I was back when I was a tiny tot. So sue me. I need to mug more to keep up. Stiff competition in SMU, it ain't no Law fac I know, but its tough in its own way ya know? Can't help but feel awfully tarded in class at times. Starting to feel the stress coming soon. How I wish I had more of the Maple Cookies (Damn you Nara) All the projects are looming behind me ready to pounce. I feel as if, I'm not really as busy as I ought to be and that can only mean that when things start to appear, I'll be blindsided and realise I ought to have started preparing for shit alot earlier. Test coming on CNY week. Got to prepare for it soon. Haven't got much time this weekend. Speaking of which....

Congratulations to my long time friend, MITZ! She's getting married this Sunday. I love you so much! *Jingle Keys* We ought to have Pictionary night more often.

Mood Chameleon

Thursday, January 12, 2006
Someone called me a Mood Chameleon today. Apparently my mood is too easily affected by the moods of the people around me. Oh well.

AS sucks by the way, I take back what I said. It's not interesting. It's friggin' confusing. Mind Boggling. Let me tell you about my BGS grp btw, 5 guys, only 2 of us has attended class so far. And the other 3, I think one is still in India (serious) and the other 2, tried mailing them but apparently all the mails keep bouncing back cuz they've put it upon themselves to forget to empty their mailbox. Meanwhile we have 4 more weeks before project is due, and I don't even know my group members. Fan-Blardy-tastic yar?

Starting to miss my LTB group from last sem. <3 Stone. The main difference between Sem 1 and Sem 2 is this: Members of the opposite sex. Basically I have 2-3 classes that are ALL BOYS classes. Rumour has it that placements arrangement was outsourced to some external company who decided to bunch all the guys in one class and all the gals in another. Cruel joke. It kinda makes projects a little bit more boring, why? Well, nothing sexist but gals are better at taking minutes and guys just don't bother. Obviously, the real reason why I don't like not having girls is solely because my group dynamics aren't as well balanced. NOTHING to do with being horny. True story.

Anyways, I've come up with a list of things I want to do over this year. So here is the official New Year's Resolution 2006 : Bacbac Edition

1) Complete my Comm Service hours this coming summer break
2) Practice drawing more. (Yes I suck but maybe one day I'll get better and you'll all be sorry)
3) Lose some weight. Stop laughing.
4) Read more BOOKS!
5) Not let this blog die of neglect

Well as you can see, all these resolutions are directly affected by one thing. My time spent on WoW! YES! Ever since I started WoW, I've exercised less, read less and stop drawing totally. Remember my presentation on video game addiction? Well I'm part of the addiction, in fact I'm blogging this WHILE I'm playing WoW right now. Wahaha.. in your face! So much for my conviction on the topic. Basically, all the resolutions can be compressed into 1 all encompassing resolution:

6) Play less WoW / Discover way to bend space and time to create more time.

Here's the list of the books I want to read this year. At the very least:
1) Chainfire
2) Pride and Prejudice
3) To Kill a Mocking Bird
4) The Summer Tree
5) Once and Future King
6) Crime and Punishment
7) The New Raymond E Feist Book
8) Man and Wife
9) New Drizzt Book

I WILL finish all these books this year! Wish me good luck!

Analytical Skills module is like soooooo fun! I finished my assignment on the same day as it was given to us. Its like damn fun la. The course is supposed to be about arguements; how to construct a good arguement, how to critically assess another arguement, how to avoid making fallacies.. shit like that. All in all, its assignments are pretty much IQ questions. Hurhur.. and that's so fun to do.

Eg of a question will be:
There are 3 black hats and 2 white hats. Person A B and C each take one hat and put in on their head. They have no idea what colour it is. A is placed in a position where he can see B and C's hat. B in a position where he can see C. And C can see nothing. A says he doesn't know the colour of his hat and B says he doesn't know the colour of his hat. C says he knows the colour of his hat and he is correct. What is C's hat colour and how did he figure it out.

OMG, so fun right? Haha.. And it helps that the Prof. is very interesting. He's this British guy called John Williams. And he cracks jokes in his own monotone way which is a Brit thing apparently. I quote, "It a distinctive feature of British humour that when we crack jokes, we try to look very serious." He just cracks me up. <3

Biz Law however is total crap. Well not totally. Biz Law is exciting as hell, interesting max. But the Prof. likes to crack lame, COLD COLD jokes. Managerial Accounting is the total crap module. The Prof. is everything that I hate about our teachers nowadays. Plain reading from the slides, nearly word for word. Because, Yes, while I am capable of completing years of education and succeeded in enrolling in a University of my choice, I am as of yet, UNABLE to read simple text is English and understanding it myself. I need someone to actually orally dictate the contents of the powerpoint slides to me, without any further elaboration beyond the exact words on the slide, for me to understand the concepts of different cost types. __

Remind me to tell you the logic joke that my AS prof told us. It's a total hoot. And if you want the answer to the above question you can ask me too.

Current likes: Lunching with friends! Return of Nara!

Surprise Screening

Wednesday, January 04, 2006
So anyway, decided to catch a movie yesterday and when looking through the list of movies I saw something interesting playing at GV plaza. It was listed as "Surprise Screening." What it basically is is a movie screening where you didn't know what was playing until you actually sat down to watch it. Feeling adventurous, we (Zi and me) decided to take it on. Mainly because it was playing at a very special price of $5 per person and well.. we're cheapskates. Shortly after watching the movie, it was revealed that it was called, "Dreamer"

Dreamer stars Kurt Russell and Dakota Fanning. I'm sure you know Kurt Russell, Escape from LA and many other less than stellar movies. Dakota Fanning, child star, seen in movies like I am Sam and War of the Worlds. Based on a true story, Dreamer is about a family who stays on a horse farm that houses no horses and a horse named Soniadore which surprise, surprise, means Dreamer. Being another horse movie, I immediately think of the only other recent notable horse movie around, Seabiscuit, which starred Spiderman (Toby Maguire or something, can't remember the spelling) If you've seen Seabiscuit, you don't really need to watch Dreamer because its pretty much the same story with minor differences. Also, Spiderman is much more Pro than Kurt Russell. IF you have yet to watch Seabiscuit, you still probably shouldn't watch Dreamer and instead, buy the Seabiscuit VCD instead. Its not that Dreamer is a terrible show. It is in fact very enjoyable and Dakota Fanning is a delight to watch. However, Seabiscuit is just a much better movie and if you must only watch one horse movie (I generally assume not too many people want to watch multiple movies about horses), Seabiscuit will probably be a better choice.

There were a few scenes in the film that could have used a little better editting and better use of pauses. Of course I'm no film expert but this is just a personal opinion. Also, for a horse movie, I feel surprisingly little for the horse. The film didn't really make me care enough for the Soniadore (Incidentally played by a horse named Sacrifice. Serious) and I would suppose that in a horse movie, you would kinda want to make the horse another character. But in Dreamer, Soniadore feels like a living prop more than a character that you'll care about. Kinda like the car the main character drives. On the overall it really is just a Ho-Hum film. You could watch it if you were bored. There were memorable scenes though. Namely the Coffee scene and the Donut scene. Notice how in a horse movie, foodstuffs actually made more of an impact on me?

On the overall, I'd give Dreamer 6.5/10

Side note, maybe i'll start giving reviews on my site to entertain myself. =P

Happy New Year!!!

Monday, January 02, 2006
Year 2006!! Wow. That's something yea?

And with that comes the first entry in my brand new BLOG!!! For those of you who are new, this is in fact my 2nd blog. Where was the first one? Well let's just say I don't like it anymore.

So how did you spend your New Year? I was in a car with on the ECP with hot babe Honglay and the one, the only Xu Jiazi! (Just in case you don't know, but really if you don't even know this, maybe I don't know you well enough for you to be reading my Blog, Jiazi is my girlfriend. Yes girls of Singapore, weep. Weep tears of pity for Jiazi) It's all still fresh in my mind. Jean Danker and Rod Montiero on Class 95 and they said, "30secs to 2006!" Jiazi and Lay said something like "Oh my God! So fast?" They were playing some Matrix soundtrack in the background while counting down to the New Year and when they came to Zero, gone was 2005 and car horns honked in unison to welcome the arrival of 2006! We scrolled down the windows and started wishing complete strangers in other cars a Happy New Year! Then the fireworks came and they were beautiful. Actually I'm sure it would have been beautiful, what we saw was just trees and trees and trees all blocking out the fireworks. Whee. We could hear it though. The fireworks. But I hear that that really isn't as fun as watching the Bing Bang Booms. Next year we'll have a plan. Eh Lay? Keke =)

Highlights of 2005:
1) I finally ORD-ed. Up yours SAF!
2) HongKong trip! I went with Zi, Winnie, Zen, Zen's Friend and Man whose name that cannot be spoken. Read more about this at Zi's Blog.
3) Had some fun with my OG grp. <3
4) School starts, made some new friends (I sound so primary schoolish)
5) STONE rocks! I love you guys man. Vagen, Clara, Jeff and Dickson. (I'm accidentally leaving out Adrian on purpose.)
6) Aries and Thomas, now these two are a separate highlight themselves! <3 <3 <3
7) Experienced gay sex for the very first time with Thomthom. Couldn't sit down for a week.
8) Zi gave me a bitching new MP3 Player. iRiver FOR THE WIN! ROAR!
9) Experiencing the turn of the New Year with Zi.

Well that was that, thanks for tuning in. Hang around for more of me.
