The Importance of Being Polite (11th Oct)

Friday, October 17, 2008
The last time we were out with Visum, we had the best night we would never remember. This time we had a day we wouldn't mind not remembering. Visum goes to Frankfurt and unfortunately, we decided to tag along.

It actually seems like I'm blaming them but I'm not. Truth be told, Frankfurt just wasn't a very exciting place. After you've been to Berlin and Munich and, well basically all the awesome places in Germany, Frankfurt just didn't cut it as a tourist destination.

And so for the rest of the walking tour, I was taking pictures simply to be polite.

Oh the European Central Bank?! Nice like EU sign. I'll take a picture.

The old opera house? Oh well... doesn't look that impressive. Take a picture of it since everyone's doing the same.

The cathedral? Yea... I've kinda seen the Sagrada Familia. So.. yea.. sorry. Not impressed. But yea, since I'm here, I'll take a picture of you just for posterity's sake.

There was once I even took a picture of the WRONG building because they building of note looked rather... plain.

We came upon a square that had a lot of old buildings but... Heidelberg, which was the very first place outside of Mannheim we went, was a town filled with buildings like these. (You don't know this because I've backdated posts about Heidelberg and Spain.)

The high point of the trip came when we scattered for lunch. We were told to meet back again at 7pm for our Apfel Wein Express.

And so the hunt for food began. While the sights were lacking in Frankfurt, the food was not. We found a place that had a lunch buffet serving Japanische und Chinesische food. I have no idea how to express to you how excited we were just standing there in the restaurant waiting for our seats. Just the night before, Jiazi and my friends in Singapore went out for Sushi and my friends got her to take a picture of the Sushi and to send it to me because they knew I'd not be able to get Sushi here in Germany. (Sushi is insanely expensive here. Like 3EU for a plate of ONE Sushi.) Thanks you bastards. I'll get you guys when I'm back.

Well the jokes on you. BEHOLD!

For the next hour or so, we basically unleashed the floodgates of self control and gorged ourselves on the much missed Sushi. The best thing was that this wasn't lousy Sushi. This was Sushi as good as any you can get in Singapore. We basically ate so much that we couldn't move.

And so Jiahui and I discussed what to do for the rest of the day in Frankfurt and we basically agreed there was nothing we really wanted to do or see in this place. So we decided that this would be a Chillax day and we just wandered the city...

...walked by a park...

...and finally settled down in a cafe to have some Heise Schokolade. Over our drinks, we talked about everything under the sun until we came upon the topic of.. Ambrose. Besides talking about the people he loves/hates, Jiahui talked about how for the rest of the Exchange I would not being seeing much of Ambrose anymore. From previous posts you might have garnered some sense of how much spastic fun I have with the bugger. And so it was of course regrettable that the next time I saw Ambrose would be be simultaneously be my last time with him; during our trip to be Europapark.

So imagine my surprise when I looked up and I saw Ambrose just walking through the streets of Frankfurt. I shot up from my seat and ran in front of him and screamed into his face, "BEAUTY!" (I actually scared the hell out of his friends and everyone in the cafe was staring at me, the crazy asian dude) He was supposed to reply "Wu!" but in his shock, he screamed "What the FUCK!?" instead. (It's actually supposed to go Beauty-Wu-Jia-Hui)

This was a rather high point in the day and we took a picture to commemorate our chance encounter in Frankfurt that took place in front of the Golden Arches of Mcdonalds. The power of the Fast Food Song unites friends in distant lands.

That night we went aboard the Apfel Wein Express which was basically a tram that took you through a tour of Frankfurt while serving Applewine. Most. Boring. Tour. Ever. The tram had bad temperature and bad music. The view outside was dark so we couldn't see anything. And even if we could, they showed us stuff we've already seen in the afternoon. After a while the view turned from bad to worse and we were eventually going through boring looking residential districts. Its like taking a tour through Bedok and Tampines. Nice.

Luckily there was plenty of Applewine and we simple drank enough to create an Alcohol-induced-Awesomeness and we were soon having fun.

The Apfel Wein Expressed ended our trip to Frankfurt and we all concurred that we would only return to Frankfurt for one reason. The Lunch Buffet.
